The Twitter Irony of our Trip to Asheville

So this past weekend we left Eve and Eden with a friend (THANK YOU TINA!) and headed up to Asheville for Chris and MaryAnn's daughter's wedding . . . yes, we have already commented that we must really be getting old if it's not our friends getting married but our friends' children getting married . . . ANYWAY,

I'm pretty sure I had just sent out a twitter that said something about how easy it was to take care of just one child . . . I think that was right before we stopped at Zaxby's for a potty-break and lunch. I was just innocently (and also relatively quickly) washing my hands in the bathroom when I turned around to see that Eli had crawled under the nearby OCCUPIED stall! I was so embarrassed! I just stood there saying (rather loudly) "Eli, get out of there! Eli! No sir!" Thankfully, the nice young girl (and Eli) came out soon after that and I apologized profusely before getting out of there as fast as I could! Guess I need to eat my twitter words!

Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip. It was a beautiful outdoor wedding up in the mountains. And then we met Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Mike for breakfast the next morning and headed back home. It was a fun quick trip. Can't wait to head back in the Fall for apple picking!

Why Rocks?

This is an excerpt from my blog post titled Rocks in My Wagon:

So actually my real reason for liking the name Rocks in My Wagon is because of the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World.

There is a story near the beginning of the book that I totally love. It’s better if you read it yourself, but I’ll try a brief synopsis from what I remember.

Basically, there is a person that God asks to carry 3 small rocks in a wagon up to the top of a mountain. The person starts off on the journey very excited and the load is light. But along the way, we’ll just say ’she’ (i.e. Julie) starts trying to help and carry other people’s rocks too - first small ones, then bigger ones, heavier ones. Next thing you know she is worn out and can’t get up the mountain (and wondering why God asked her to do this when she can’t).

I remember sharing with the group of girls I was with (loved that Bradford J Team) that I felt like my wagon was not only full but sitting on top of me. At the time, I think I had pretty recently gotten new house, new job, and new baby #2 (our sweet little Eden was NOT a fun delivery OR newborn - I think we were both crying quite a bit!) New baby meant maternity leave which meant no pay check (hence more DEBT). It was all a little over-whelming.

But anyway, the point is that I had to dump out the wagon full of all the rocks that I had been trying to pull and focus on only the rocks God wanted me to carry. At that time, there were 3 rocks with the names Shilo, Eve, and Eden. Not everything else. Not everyone else - not every patient I saw - not every need that needed to be filled. So now my wagon has a rock named Eli too, but it is all still much lighter and much easier to pull. And I am headed back up that mountain joyfully again.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
